COVID-19 – current measures

Government decides to further tighten preventive measures against the spread of covide-19 disease

As of Thursday, 22 October, further, stricter preventive measures against the spread of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 came into force on the territory of the Czech Republic. Retail and services, working hours of authorities and the free movement of residents are all severely restricted.

From 22 October, 6:00 a.m., for the period of the declared emergency until 3 November inclusive, the free movement of people on the territory of the Czech Republic is prohibited, with exceptions.  As in the spring, there are a few exceptions to the ban including travels to work, family trips, doing necessary shopping or using health-care facilities. People can also go to parks and the countryside or go to their own holiday cottage and stay there. Only two people will be able to move together in publicly accessible places, with the exception of members of the household. Attendance at weddings and funerals will be limited to ten people and the right of assembly to no more than a hundred people in groups of twenty.

From 22 October, from 6.00 a.m., the retail sale and provision of services on the premises are also prohibited. Exceptions include the sale of food, fuel, drugstores or newspapers, tobacco and magazines, as well as car service, dry cleaners, pharmacies, funeral services or florists. Hotels and other accommodation or food courts in shopping centres, with exceptions, had to close as well.

As of 6 a.m. on Thursday, the government also restricted the operation of public authorities to the minimum necessary to ensure the functioning of the public administration. Office hours remain limited to five hours a day, two days a week, with the authorities to ensure their operation by the lowest possible number of employees at the workplace. The government issued the same recommendation to other employers. They too are to prioritise working from home, granting holidays and paid time off during this period, and reduce activity to the minimum necessary.
