RCPTM will take part in a conference for plant biologists
For the first time, RCPTM will take part in a conference called Plant Biotechnology: Green for Good V, which is organized by the Centre of the Region Haná for Biotechnological and Agricultural Research (CRH) on behalf of the European Federation of Biotechnology (EFB). RCPTM researchers will give their talks as part of a new section called Sustainable Environmental Technologies. Michal Otyepka will share his experience with solving as well as applying for and evaluating an ERC grant.
Technologies for sustainable development holds in RCPTM’s research areas a high position. These areas involve, for example, monitoring environmental pollution; remediation of groundwater, waste water, and surface water; new materials for environmentally friendly chemical processes, or new materials exploiting waste products.
“Research into these areas requires a broad interdisciplinary approach. We truly believe that our participation in the conference, primarily in the section Sustainable Environmental Technologies, will aid in promoting our research among plant biologists. Basically, the major goal of our participation is to gain inspiration, hold discussions on future collaboration, and build up the network of our partners. The greatest potential for future development of the centre’s activities lies in broad interdisciplinary and internationally intertwined research that focuses on major and crucial issues relating to our society,” said Michal Otyepka, who will be the Chairman of this section.
RCPTM will also be represented by Rajender Varma, who will tackle the issue of exploiting carbonaceous waste for environmental technologies (Carbonaceous waste: sustainable applications in chemical transformations and environmental remediation) and Jan Filip, who will speak about iron-based nanomaterials for water remediation (Iron-based (nano)materials: an advanced tool for water).
“Both research centres contributes towards solving major global issues relating to the world we live in today. The goal of the newly introduced section aimed at sustainable technologies is to identify overlaps between the two institutions and their research activities,” said Ivo Frébort, CRH Director.
The conference will be held at the Faculty of Science, Palacký University Olomouc, on June 10–13. About 150 researchers and students from 20 different countries have confirmed their attendance looking forward to 35 lectures and about 80 posters.
