SC_000The publication “Omeprazole and Lansoprazole Enantiomers Induce CYP3A4 in Human Hepatocytes and Cell Lines via Glucocorticoid Receptor and Pregnane X Receptor Axis“ was recently published in the respected journal, PLoS ONE (PLoS ONE. 2014 Aug 20;9(8):e105580., IF2012 = 3.73). Lansoprazole and omeprazole are used for treatment of various gastrointestinal pathologies. In the current study we demonstrate the induction of CYP3A4 by omeprazole and lansoprazole in human carcinoma cell line HepG2 and primary human hepatocytes. The induction comprises differential interactions of omeprazole and lansoprazole with transcriptional regulators PXR and GR, and some of the effects were enantiospecific. Link
