The speckle pattern obtained by the nonlinear process in paired-photon field at high intensities.

In a recent Optics Express publication [Opt. Express 22, 013374 (2014)] the group of RCPTM in cooperation with the group of University of Insubria, Como, Italy, has shed more light into the spatial correlations of the twin-photon-beams produced by the nonlinear process of parametric frequency down-conversion. In particular, it has been shown for the first time that spatial correlation functions measured for correlated photon pairs at the single-photon level correspond to speckle patterns visible at high intensities. This process is considered one of the most useful tools for investigation of fundamental laws of nature as well as for practical applications of quantum optics and quantum information processing.
